Sally Owen-Still was born and raised in New Jersey. After majoring in biology at Valparaiso University, Sally spent her professional years in the Chicago area. Her jobs have included teaching and not-for-profit administration.Sally has always enjoyed working with yams and fabrics. She began making traditional quilts in 2000 and now concentrates on original nature-inspired wall hangings.About quilting she says, “What delights me most about Quilted Fabric Art is working in layers. The piece is created with quilt-shop cottons designed by a fabric artist who has no idea how the quilter will use them. What they become in the work is always a surprise to me. My nature-themed wall hangings begin with a background that is machine-pieced or appliqued. Other elements added are more applique, stuffing for depth, and embellishments with thread, beads, crayons, ink or colored pencils.”Sally and her husband Tom Still, a pianist, moved to Big Timber in the summer of2005. They have three grown children, Randy, Rebecca, and Tim.
