I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Houston, Texas. I had many opportunities to develop my interest in art as a child. My family provided materials, lessons, trips to museums, art books and encouragement.I attended the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore in 1971-1972. I then studied at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, where I was introduced to tapestry weaving. This medium captured my interest so completely that I dropped my other classes and spent every day in the weaving studio.More than thirty years later, I still find tapestry weaving to be my vocation. After several years of working on geometric designs, followed by birds and animals, I began weaving simple landscapes in 1979. Since then, I have pursued landscape as a design source almost exclusively and challenge myself by finding new areas of concentration, such as sky, water, greater detail, and the effects of light. I have lived in Montana since 1983 and find here endless scenes of interest-varied land forms; subtle color and light and inspiring beauty. My husband and I live on a ranch and many of my tapestries are of the neighborhood where I live in Sweet Grass County.  To visit Laurie’s website, click here.
