Robert (Bob) Green grew up in the Missouri Ozarks where he helped his dad build houses so came by a love of carpentry and wood working quite naturally.  Following a 30 year career in the auto parts and engine and transmission rebuilding industry, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Montana in October, 2001, for employment on a working cattle ranch north of Big Timber where Bob served as Foreman for two years.  Falling in love with the Big Timber area, they moved only 50 miles and took a job as Manager/Caretaker on a ranch for absentee owners. During the winter months when the ranch work is slow Bob’s woodworking hobby keeps him busy.  He fashions furniture from windfall trees and produces bowls, Christmas ornaments and a variety of things on the lathe. Lathe work is done using a variety of local and exotic woods.  Montana woods include: Juniper, Aspen, Spruce, Fir, Cedar, Hawthorne, Wild Cherry, Mountain Maple, and  Mountain Mahogany.  Other woods include: Mesquite, Walnut, Hickory, Sassafras, Sumac, Apricot, Ambrosia Maple, Osage Orange, and Ash.  Exotic woods Bob has used are: Bocote, Zebra Wood, Purple Heart, Blood Wood, Padauk, Goncalo Alves, and East India Rose Wood.  Each finished piece has a character of it’s own, no two are alike.  The luster and feel of the wood is warm and friendly, begging to be handled. Being a member of the Northern Rockies Woodworkers’ Guild and the American Association of  Woodturners has encouraged him and given him ideas for designs and  techniques.  Since 2005 Bob has been practicing the art of wood turning. The most popular pieces are inlaid with Turquoise and Pipestone, enhancing the wood’s natural flaws and worm holes into assets.   Some Christmas ornaments have included sea shells and deer antler segments.  Bob’s creations are limited only by his imagination.

Bob and Barbara enjoy riding their mules and exploring the rocky trails through the Beartooth, Absaroka Mountains near their home.
